We’re a bit different than most of our competitors- PDF accessibility remediation is not a sideline for us, it is our singular service. Our goal is to guide our clients in accessibility “best practices” for document production, minimize post-production remediation, increase efficiency, and reduce costs.
Total accessibility is the goal of every AIM remediation, at the lowest possible cost. AIM’s turn-key solution utilizes the latest tools, accessibility best practices, and our proprietary methods to meet all Section 508/ WCAG / PDF/UA requirements.
With over 15 years creating accessible content, we are accessibility experts. With in-house experience and the use of industry standard technology and tools, we make sure your documents meet today’s accessibility standards. Our process ensures your documents retain their original layout and features. We have a multi-tier review process to ensure the highest quality possible. Our independent review team assesses each document post-production to make sure your documents are fully compliant with accessibility specifications before they are returned to you.
Our accessible PDF conversion services can start with any digital source file. Typical formats include MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, or OpenOffice source files. We also can start with an existing PDF file.
Since you already know you need help being standards compliant, you likely know that saving your files to PDF format doesn't neccessarily make for a standards-compliant accessible PDF document. Even with appropriate mark up in your source files, very few tools that create PDFs render them with appropriate PDF tagging. Even with MS Office files, which do allow for the basic production of accessible PDFs, if the source tagging in the Office file isn't done correctly, your target PDF files will not pass many accessibility validations. And if you do not export your Office files correctly, then some tagging will still need be done via Adobe Acrobat.
PDF is one of the most widely used formats for digitizing print material. The Portable Document Format isn't going away any time soon, and as more of our digital information is archived in PDF format, ensuring that the information contained in these PDFs is accessible becomes increasingly important. Document remediation is the process of converting a normal digital publication into a resource that is accessible to individuals with visual and auditory disabilities.
In the ideal world, PDFs would be generated from well structured source documents. Even then, even using Adobe Acrobat, there are no guarantees that the resulting PDF will meet the comprehensive standards of WCAG 2.0, PDF/UA and Section 508. Creating well structured source documents requires extensive knowledge of the various standards: compliance is primarily about tagging the document’s content properly.
PDFs typically are delivered to us with one of three starting points; untagged, improperly tagged, or an image only. No matter what state your documents are in -- we can help you meet accessibility standards.
